We are starting a homestead but what exactly is Homesteading?

Ever dreamed of growing your own veggies, collecting fresh eggs in the morning, or making your own sambal from garden-grown chilies? That’s homesteading—and no, you don’t need a dusun or a kampung house to start.

Homesteading is all about living more simply and sustainably. It means growing your own food, learning DIY skills, and being less dependent on supermarkets and delivery apps (though we still love a good GrabFood treat). It’s a lifestyle that prioritizes self-reliance, family time, and getting your hands a little dirty—in the best way.

Back in the day, our neneks and atuks lived this way by default—planting, cooking from scratch, catching chickens around the house, and fixing what broke. We are strong believers in the back-to-basics lifestyle, and we want to practice it.

Simply put, homesteading is just a fancier word for living a self-sufficient lifestyle. You don’t need to go full-on “kampung life.” Start small—grow a basil in a pot, try composting, or learn to make your own kimchi. It’s a great way to bond as a family, teach your kids valuable life skills, and create a home that feels more like… well, home.

So if you’re craving a slower, more meaningful way of living—where your hands are busy, your heart is full, and your fridge is stocked with things you grew yourself, join us on this homesteading journey together.

Honestly, we are very new in this and we will make mistakes too but we believe we can build a strong community together with like-minded people and learn from each other. Most importantly, we want to enjoy Mother Earth and take care of her at the same time. It’s not that complicated, life is simple. Really 🙂

We will be sharing our journey together, stay tuned for more!
