I have been writing quite a few articles about waste, and I think it would be good if I could share with you a compilation of where you can donate/sell your waste, because decluttering your home doesn’t mean adding to landfills. Whether you’re looking to give away clothes, recycle old electronics, or dispose of used cooking oil responsibly, our country offers a variety of eco-conscious and socially responsible options, and some with rewards, too. Clothes, Textiles & Furniture
1. Kloth Cares
- What They Accept: Clothes, textiles, soft toys, bags, and fabric off-cuts.
- How It Works: Drop items at Kloth Cares bins located nationwide.

- What they do with it: Collected textiles are recycled, repurposed, or converted into energy.
2. H&M Garment Collecting Programme
- What They Accept: Any brand of clothing in any condition.
- Reward: Receive a 15% discount voucher per donation bag (max 2/day).
- Contact: 1800-180-032
- Location: Any H&M store nationwide (just put them in a bag and make sure they are clean)
- What they do with it: Items are reused, recycled, or converted to new materials or insulation.
3. Community Recycle for Charity (CRC)
- What They Accept: Clothes, books, usable furniture, toys, electronics,
- How It Works: Use yellow/green CRC bins located in residential areas
- Contact: Visit crc.org.my for bin locations and requests (they also have free collection service for bulky items such as a usable mattress or furniture. Take a picture and contact them via Whatsapp first – +60 17 3638100)
- What they do with it: Proceeds from recyclables support local charity homes.
4. Tzu Chi Malaysia Recycling Program
- What They Accept: Clothes, books, paper, metal, aluminium, and electrical appliances
- How It Works: Please clean and sort out your items by category and recyclables at the nearest Tzu Chi recycling station during operating hours.

- What they do with it: The proceeds from recycling activities are channeled into humanitarian aid, educational programs, and disaster relief efforts.
Electrical & Electronic Items
Many people do not know that it is important to dispose of our electronics safely, as it contain batteries and other materials that will cause harm to the environment if not handled properly. Our government has also started a new programme to encourage Malaysians to dispose of their electronics safely. Here are some of the places you can drop off your electronic items.
1. KITAR E-waste Recycling Program by MCMC
- What They Accept: Mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, laptops, power banks, chargers, and accessories.
- How It Works: These items can be dropped off at designated collection points across the country.
- Contact: https://kitar.mcmc.gov.my for more details and locations.
- What they do with it: The collected e-waste is then sent to a Full Recovery Facility (FRF) for proper recycling and material recovery. This process ensures that valuable materials such as copper, silver, gold, and palladium are recovered and reused, contributing to a circular economy
2. E-Ways E-Waste Collection
- What They Accept: TVs, fridges, washing machines, computers, phones, etc.
- How It Works: Contact the nearest location near you and they will arrange free collection from your house, especially for large items like a fridge or a washing machine.

- What they do with it: Recycles e-waste to prevent toxic landfill pollution.
2. The Salvation Army Malaysia – Donation Pick-Up Service
- What They Accept: Working electrical appliances, furniture, and household items.

- How It Works: Drop off at their HQ or submit this booking for large items here: Salvation Army Booking
- What they do with it: Donations go directly to support underprivileged families.
Used Cooking Oil
In Malaysia, used cooking oil (UCO) is a valuable resource that can be recycled into various products, including biodiesel, soap, animal feed, and candles. I did not know that until recently that we can recycle or sell our cooking oil. So what I do now is that I collect my used cooking oil in a bottle, and when the bottle is full, I will hand it over to the collector. It’s not much money, but I think it’s a good practice to dispose of them safely and not pollute our ocean. Here are several organizations and companies that facilitate the collection and recycling of UCO, offering compensation to contributors.
1. Recycle Oil (RecycleOil.my)
- What They Accept: Used cooking oil from homes, F&B businesses.
- How it Works: They offer door-to-door collection for qualifying quantities
- Location: Klang Valley

2. Setel – Petronas UCO Collection Program
- How It Works: Through the Setel app, users can request a collection of used cooking oil (minimum 5kg) by licensed agents.
- Incentive: Earn cash and Setel credits for your contribution.
- Location: Currently available in Kajang, Semenyih, Bangi, and Serdang, with plans for expansion.
3. Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang)
- Location: Pusat Inovasi @ Sepang
- Operating Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Incentive: RM3 per kilogram of filtered used cooking oil.

4. Local UCO Collectors
- Examples:
- Arus Oil: RM1.30 – RM2.20 per kg (minimum 5kg)
- SS Used Cooking Oil: RM1.50 per kg (minimum 5kg)
- Oillax: RM1.40 per kg (minimum 10kg)
- Captain Oil: RM1 – RM2.50 per kg (minimum 10–15kg)
- Arus Oil: RM1.30 – RM2.20 per kg (minimum 5kg)
Door-to-Door Recycling Collection Program
For Selangor folks, lucky for you, because Nestlé (yes, the Milo company) in collaboration with the Selangor local council, has started an ESG initiative to encourage people to recycle and manage their recyclable waste better by offering to collect recyclables directly from your doorstep as long as you sort them correctly. So far, the collection program covers areas such as Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Subang Jaya. They will expand to more areas if the program is successful.
- What They Accept: Dry recyclables such as plastics, paper, aluminum, and glass.
- How It Works: Residents place recyclables in separate bags outside their homes on designated collection days.
- Operating Days: Three times a week, aligned with domestic waste collection schedules.
- Contact: For participation and queries, contact your local Rukun Tetangga or Residents Association (RA)
- What they do with it: The recyclables will be sorted and processed into new raw materials.
Vending Machine Recycling Initiative
In a collaborative effort to promote recycling and reduce plastic waste, Grab Malaysia has partnered with KLEAN, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd (F&N), and the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI). Together, they have launched a series of AI-driven Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) across the Klang Valley, including several locations in Selangor.
- How It Works: Deposit items by placing the rinsed plastic bottles, food containers, or aluminum cans into the RVM. Then scan QR Code by using the KLEAN app to scan the QR code displayed on the RVM screen.
- Incentive: Receive KLEAN points for each item recycled. These points can be redeemed for Grab vouchers and other rewards.
- Location: Currently available in AEON Big Shah Alam, The Curve (Ground Floor, opposite K Plus Food Market), and Petron Bandar Utama.
- What they do with it: The collected recyclables are processed by Asasrama Sdn Bhd, a certified processor, to be transformed into raw materials such as PP and PET pallets/flakes. These materials are then repurposed into new products, including apparel, furniture fillings, and plastic furniture/boxes.
Other Recycling Reward Apps in Malaysia

1. NuCycle
- About: NuCycle is a recycling app that allows users to earn digital coins (NuCycle coins) by recycling sorted materials at designated centers. These coins can be redeemed for eCash, vouchers, or donated to charity.

2. KITARecycle
- About: Operated by SWM Environment, KITARecycle rewards users in Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan with Recycling Points (RP) for over 30 types of recyclable items, including paper, aluminum cans, plastics, and e-waste. Accumulated points can be cashed out via online banking.

3. ZeLoop
- About: ZeLoop is an eco-friendly app that rewards users for not littering. Users can collect used plastic bottles and drop them at designated collection points to earn tokens, trophies, and medals, which can be redeemed for rewards or traded for actual money.

4. Buzzloop
- About: Buzzloop encourages users to adopt sustainable habits by reusing smart reusable products equipped with NFC tags or QR codes. Users earn Buzz Points by reusing these items at participating stores, which can be redeemed for rewards such as gift cards, e-wallet credits, and donations.

5. KLEAN the World
- About: KLEAN the World is an app that rewards users for recycling PET plastic bottles. For every liter of plastic bottles recycled, users save 100g of carbon emissions. The app provides information on recycling locations and rewards users for their recycling efforts.

- About: Riiicycle is an app that allows users to schedule doorstep pickups for recyclables or find the nearest e-waste bins. Users earn Riiipoints for every recyclable item they bring in, which can be redeemed for rewards and discounts.

7. ERTH (Electronic Recycling Through Heroes)
- About: ERTH is an app that facilitates the recycling of electronic waste. Users can fill in a booking form, and an ERTH representative will arrange for collection. Users receive payment via DuitNow upon successful recycling.
